Sources & Notes

Source: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)

Notes: The prevalence of diagnosed hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) is based on self-report of a prior diagnosis of high cholesterol. The prevalence of undiagnosed high cholesterol is based on a serum total cholesterol measurement of  ≥240 mg/dL among survey participants who did not report a prior diagnosis of high cholesterol. All population-level estimates are derived from the subset of NHANES participants with non-missing questionnaire and laboratory data and are weighted to account for complex survey design.
